The worlds hardest known element is Titanium and it has been used in everything from aircraft, artificial hips and can even be found in the International Space Station. Besides it's strength, Titanium is also know for being lightweight. It doesn't tarnish and it's also hypoallergenic. These characteristics are also the reason why Titanium watches are highly sought after.
Titanium was first discovered in 1791 by William Gregor in the Menachan Valley of Cornwall, England. But it wasn't until four years later when Martin Heinrich Klaproth independently made a similar discovery that Titanium got it's name. Klaproth named the element Titanium, after the Titans, who according to Ancient Greek mythology, were the first sons of the earth.
Titanium has many desirable properties that have made it the metal of choice in many different industries. Watch makers like working with the metal because it's so durable, yet so light weight.
Titanium watches and jewelry tend to look a lot like white gold, platinum or silver. Even though Titanium isn't a precious metal, it's still highly sought after because of the craftsmanship required to make a fine timepiece out of it.
Since Titanium is hypoallergenic, it's the only option for people with sensitive skin or metal allergies. It's also why Titanium is used in pace makers, dental implants, heart valves and even artificial hips. And after the doctor replaces one of your hips with a artificial one, you'll probably be wheeled around the hospital in a wheelchair made from Titanium parts.
If you are looking for a durable watch, that is great looking and light on your wrist, then Titanium is an excellent choice. You'll be surprised at how attractive a watch made from the same metal as the International Space Station can be.
