Watch Maintenance – Guidelines On Avoiding Common Problems

High quality watches can be expensive. Maintain your investment by taking the time to care for your watch. Few realize that watches require simple and frequent maintenance to keep working at the most effective levels. Maintenance is especially important for watches that are only worn occasionally or on special occasions. When a watch isn't worn often, the small gears may lose their lubrication and stop working properly. If you don't regularly wear your watch, make sure that you at least take the time to wind it, clean it and keep it working properly. After all, who wants to have to purchase a new watch simply because the old one wasn't treated properly?

Watches can also be sensitive to extreme temperatures. Keep your watch in a cool, dry place away from high temperature fluctuations. If you are going to spend time in the extreme cold or heat, leave your watch at home. Many people choose to purchase an inexpensive watch to wear when they will be unable to wear their nice watch. Contact and fast moving sports can also be detrimental to the overall mechanics of your watch.

Sometimes people don't realize that they have to clean their watch. Overtime, dirt will collect on the watch, along with sweat and oil from repeated use. Just find a soft cloth and use it to gently wipe around the entire watch. Many conscientious watch owners will even take their watch to be professional cleaned every few years. A watch store or jeweler will be able to do maintenance on your gears. These gears do indeed need cleaning every so often.

Don't forget to also wind your watch. Even self-winding watches will stop running after a few days. Make sure that you manually wind your watch to keep it in good condition. Be sure to wind it in a forward direction. Just wind to the point where you feel a bit of resistance and then stop.

Obviously, it goes without saying that staying away from magnets is important if you have a very nice watch. By following these guidelines, you will be able to maintain the quality and functionality of your watch. A decent watch not only can be a good investment, it also can add a nice touch of class and sophistication to any outfit.

Diamond Jewellery

If you are in the market for a piece of diamond jewellery you can expect to find many shapes, styles, colours and sizes in the stones. Not only that but nowadays you have the choice of pretty much any item of jewellery with diamonds in it - earrings, bracelets/bangles, necklaces, rings, charms and brooches. So how do you find that 'perfect item'?

It will all come down to what the occasion is that you are buying for, here we look at some scenarios:

Engagement

Whether your fiancee to be is aware of the proposal or not, a diamond engagement ring is sure to please! There are many varieties of diamond engagement rings available and some common terms you will come across are:

You also aren't limited to having traditional colourless diamonds either as they are available in pink, blue and yellow also. Choosing that perfect item will largely depend on the style. If your partner has a more traditional style then a five stone princess cut ring might be the best option rather than a solitaire. Take a look at the other items of jewellery your partner wears to give you an idea.

Birthday A diamond necklace is a great birthday jewellery option. With so many pretty pendants and styles on offer you will be spoilt for choice, so narrow down your options by deciding how big of a statement you want the jewellery to make. Again look at what the friend or partners (who you are buying for) other jewellery items are like to give you an idea. Nowadays the necklace pendants available can range from small singular diamonds through to bows and drops covered in diamonds.

Milestone Anniversary A diamond eternity ring is a great way to mark a marriage milestone. In choosing the perfect eternity ring for your loved one you will need to consider the shape, style and size of the other rings they wear. Often the stone settings in engagement rings don't sit quite high enough to allow for a flat band style ring to sit next to it, for example.

Another consideration when choosing diamond jewellery is the metal. A popular choice is gold or white gold, the latter requiring more care to be taken of it to ensure that it retains its crisp colour. There are also rose gold, palladium and platinum. Each offers a varied colour in the metal along with different degrees of hardness, not to mention prices.

If you aren't quite sure what item you want to buy take a look at some of your options online and once you are happy with your decision pop into a store to see the item for your own eyes.
