Simply The Best Luxury Watches In The World

When most people think of Movado watches they envision a dark dial design with a singular dot at the twelve o'clock position. Although the simplicity of this design has been their trademark, there are and have been different styles of Movado watches. The single dot design is notably characterized in their museum style design. The word Movado comes from the Esperanto word for always in motion. The language, Esperanto, was invented in 1887 by Zamenhof, a Polish doctor, and is considered an artificial language.

In 1881, a nineteen year old swiss visionary named Achille Ditesheim launched the company in a small town in Switzerland called La Chax-de-Fonds. The company has flourished and now boasts over one hundred patents and has been recognized over twice that amount with awards for style and design. There have been a number of notable watch designs over the years. For instance, the 1912 Polyplan, 1927 Erneto, WWI Soldier's Watch, and the 1950's Kingmatic are just a few of the more well known watches. The latest incarnation is the Museum style. Interestingly, the Erneto is characterized by a pillow shaped case that winds the watch with each opening and closing.

The Museum watch reached prominence with its acceptance by the Museum of Modern Art in New York in its permanent watch collection. Movado has also been known as a promoter of the arts. In fact, at one time it commissioned Andy Warhol for designs. Other organizations supported by the Swiss company are the Joffrey Ballet, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center for the Arts.

Movado has about thirty watch collections designated with the trademark museum watch dial. Although most have the simplistic watch face design, the 800 series is a bit more similar in design to some of the other prominent sport watch designs. The 800 series has also been popular with many of the more established sports stars.

Some of the more popular collections are the Amorosa, Esprensa, 14k Gold, Junior Sport, Museum, and Series 800. The Amorosa is more like a wrist bangle watch with removable links. It comes in either two tone, solid, or 18k gold plated stainless steel. It can be further adorned with diamonds and has a sapphire crystal as do most all Movados. The Esperansa is similar to the Amorosa but has different diamond settings.

The 14K Gold collection is one of the few styles available in a leather strap and a silvered soleil dial. The Junior Sport is presented with a stainless steel strap and black dial. The high end Series 800 consists of a surgical grade performance steel case and is offered in three sizes. The Series 800 is water resistan up to two hundred meters.

Buyers can find Movado watches at some of the larger retailers. On its website, Movada lists the eight online authorized dealers, which include Macy's, Gordon's, Nordstroms, Kay's, and Zales. It is recommended that consumers purchase Movados from authorized retailers. They can find most of the styles and collections at these designated shops, including some of the recent additions such as the Movado Bold and Master.
